Handy Dispensers Allow Quick Access to Chemical Detection Test Papers
Litmus Blue Test Paper (No. 53297) and Litmus Red Test Paper (No. 53298) test for acid or alkaline reaction. Change occurs around pH 5–8. Congo Red Test Paper (No. 53299) changes color from blue to red in the range pH 3-5. Determines neutralization point in strong acid/weak alkalai reactions. Use Phenolphtalein (No. 53300) to determine neutralization point in weak acid/strong alkali reactions. Use Lead Acetate (No. 53301) to detect hydrogen sulfide. This rapid qualitative test paper, when wet with distilled water, can detect as little as 5 ppm in the atmosphere or in a gas stream. Pre-blacken this paper in hydrogen sulfide and you can check for hydrogen peroxide concentrations as low as 4 ppm. Use Starch Iodide (No. 53302) test paper to detect chlorine and other oxidizing agents. In acid solution, oxidizing agents react with the iodide in the test paper to liberate iodine. Turns blue in the presence of an oxidizing agent. All papers measure 6mm wide x 5m long. Whatman products are intended for research and development purposes only.
